When you share information with us, we want you to understand how we’re using information and the ways in which you can protect your privacy.
Our Data Use Policy explains:
We’ve tried to keep it as simple as possible because your family’s privacy matters to Owlaxy and we want you to understand how we will keep your personal information secure. So whether you are new to Owlaxy or a long-time user, please do take the time to get to know our practices – and if you have any questions contact us.
We collect information to build your and your children’s profiles, and to understand our customer’s needs.
We collect information in two ways:
How we use information we collect
We use the information we collect from all of our products and services to provide, maintain, protect and
improve them, to continue to innovate, and to protect Owlaxy and our users and partners. We also use
this information to offer you tailored content – including grade or age specific advertising, announcing
offers specifically beneficial to certain of our users.
We may use the name you provide for your Owlaxy Profile across all of the services we offer. In addition, we may replace past names associated with your Owlaxy Account so that you are represented consistently in our records. If we are able to identify other Owlaxy users that already have your email, or other information that identifies you, we may show them your publicly visible Owlaxy Profile information, such as your name and photo.
When you contact Owlaxy, we may keep a record of your communication to help resolve your concerns. We may use your email address or other contact information to inform you about updates or improvements to our or our partner’s products and services.
We use information collected from cookies and other technologies, including pixel tags, to improve the user experience and overall quality of our products and services. This may include saving your language preferences, so that our services appear in the your preferred language. We will not associate a cookie or anonymous identifier with sensitive or protected categories, including race, religion, sexual orientation or health.
We may combine personal information from one service with information, including personal information, from other Owlaxy services.
While we appreciate you allowing us to use your information, that information always belongs to you.
Data Storage
Owlaxy processes personal information on servers located around the world. We may process or store
your personal information on a server located outside the country where you live.
Transparency and choice
Privacy concerns are a personal matter. Our goal is to clearly reflect the information we collect, so that
you can make informed decisions concerning its use. For example, you can:
Review and control certain types of information tied to your Owlaxy Account. Monitor and approve who you share information with. Remove information or data from certain of our services.
You are always free to deactivate or delete your account. Deactivation puts your account information on hold, meaning other users cannot see your information but we will continue to store it on the understanding you may one day wish to reactivate your account. Deletion of your account will permanently delete the account’s information from our servers. Deletion may take an extended period as information is removed from back-up data and logs in accordance with Owlaxy’s internal policies.
You are always free to adjust your browser to notify the setting of or to block all cookies, including cookies associated with our services. However, it’s important to remember that many of our services may not function properly if your cookies are disabled.
Information you share publicly
Some of Owlaxy’s best features allow you share information with others, both internally within Owlaxy
and externally on third party sites we cannot control. Owlaxy views “public information” to include both
the information you choose to share, as well as information that is available to the general public. Making
your Owlaxy information “public” means that anyone, including people not registered with Owlaxy, is
able to view it. Making information “public” may have other consequences, including allowing your
public information to be associated with you on sites other than Owlaxy, making the information available
through a public search engine, and making the information available to other sites and applications that
you or your friends might use.
In posting information to Owlaxy, please remember that not all functions or activities allow you to select your audience or control access. If a user posts personal information to a publicly visible account or to a third party site that links to Owlaxy, that information could be publicly visible, even if you did not select that option. Additionally, your friends and family may post your public information on our site and may choose to make such posts public. This is an element we cannot control. As a general rule remember, if you do not want your information publicly available, do not post it, and request your friends not post it, to sites or accounts that are open to the general public.
Please also remember that when you share information publicly or on other sites, you are subject to data use and privacy policies that may be significantly different from this one, and your shared information may be indexable by search engines. Our services provide you with customizable options for sharing and removing your content on our site.
Control your privacy in your Account Security settings
Owlaxy encourages you to consider the data you post and your audience before they are submitted.
Once you make information public it can be shared and used beyond your or Owlaxy’s control. Please
review your Account Security settings to control your privacy.
Information that is always public
To facilitate efficient use of our site, certain limited information will always be available, as if you decided
to make it public. These include your name, profile picture, and username. This information is available
to help you connect with your friends and family, and to help you better enjoy your user experience. You are always able, at any time, to delete or modify this information to limit its public disclosure.
Accessing and updating your personal information
We want you to be able to access to your personal information. If any information is incorrect, we want
to help you to update it quickly or to delete it – unless we have to keep that information for legitimate
business or legal purposes. In updating your personal information, we may ask you to verify your identity
for security purposes.
We reserve the right to reject requests that are unreasonably repetitive, require disproportionate technical effort or cost, risk the privacy of other Owlaxy users, or would be extremely impractical.
Where we are able to provide information access and an ability to correct, we will do so for free, except where it would require an exceptional cost or effort. We build and maintain our services with an intent to protect information from accidental or malicious destruction. Because of this, after information is deleted from our services, it may not be immediately deleted from residual copies or from our backup systems.
Information we share
We will not share your personal information with companies, organizations and individuals outside of
Owlaxy except in the following cases:
We may share aggregated information that is not personally identifiable publicly and with our partners – including affiliates, advertisers or connected sites. As an example, we may share information publicly regarding unique visitors per month to show trends about the general use of our services.
If Owlaxy is involved in a merger, acquisition, business combination or asset sale, we will ensure the confidentiality of any personal information and give any affected users notice before personal information is transferred or becomes subject to a different data use policy.
Advertising
We do not share your personal information with our advertising partners (without your consent).
When we agree to post an ad on Owlaxy, we may customize the ad’s target audience by using Owlaxy user’s demographic information. For example, an advertiser may seek to reach 18-25 year old males, living in the western United States that like skiing. Only users with those characteristics will see that advertisement. It is important to note that we do not let the advertiser know the name or any personally identifiable information regarding the ad’s audience.
After ads are run, we provide advertisers with data on the performance of their advertisements. This data may include how many people saw the ad, and how many clicked on the ad. These reports are anonymous, we do not identify individuals and their actions, we report aggregate figures.
Owlaxy reserves the right to categorize our users into sub interest groups depending upon their use of our site. For example, an account with lots of postings related to USC football, and the Los Angeles Lakers may be associated with the sub interest group “Los Angeles”, or the more specific group “Los Angeles Sports Fans.” We will use these sub interest groups in a manner consistent with this Data Use Policy.
Minors and Safety
Owlaxy is very committed to the security of you and your family, especially children. We encourage
parents to teach their children safe internet practice and to monitor their usage to ensure appropriate
practices are followed.
To protect children, we will link the Owlaxy accounts of all minor children under 13 with their parent’s accounts, and provide the parent’s with additional administrative tools to manage their children’s
accounts. This will provide the parent with the ability to control what is publicly visible about their child’s Owlaxy account, to control who contacts their children through the child’s Owlaxy account, and to generally monitor the use and development of their child’s profile through the years. We may also create special restrictions and filters for use with minor’s accounts as our product and technology continue to develop.
Notifications
Owlaxy expects to notify and communicate with our users primarily through the Owlaxy site. If we need
to, we may communicate with you through the contact information you provided us, such as your email
address.
Invitations
using your name and image. We may also include the names and images of other people associated
with your Owlaxy account to encourage them to join Owlaxy.
Information security
We work hard to protect Owlaxy and our users from unauthorized access to or unauthorized modification,
disclosure or deletion of information we hold. In particular:
Application
Our Data Use Policy applies to all of the services offered by Owlaxy, Inc. and its affiliates, including
services offered on other sites (such as our advertising services), but excludes sites and services that
have separate data use or privacy policies that do not incorporate this Data Use Policy.
Our Data Use Policy does not apply to services offered by other companies or individuals, or other sites linked from our services. Our Data Use Policy does not cover the information practices of other companies and organizations who advertise our services, and who may use cookies, pixel tags and other technologies to serve and offer relevant ads.
Enforcement
Compliance with our Data Use Policy is important to us. Should we receive formal written complaints, we
will follow up directly with the affected individuals. We endeavor to work with the appropriate regulatory
authorities, including local data protection authorities, to resolve any complaints that we cannot resolve
with our users directly.
Changes
Our Data Use Policy may change from time to time. We will post any data use or privacy policy changes
on this page and, if the changes are significant, we will provide a more prominent notice (including,
for certain services, email notification of data use and privacy policy changes). We will also keep prior
versions of this Data Use Policy in an archive for your review.
